People: Gabbey and Me

Duration: 3.30pm - 9.30pm

Tide: Over low up to high

Weather: 12'c, Lovely

Bait: Mackeral, Rag, Black Lug

Rigs: 2up1down, 3up, Danglers, DDP, Loop

Results:

Coalies to 36cm, Whiting to 25cm, Pouting, Dogfish, Pollack, L.SSS, Shorey

Report:

Tuesdays off are great, I arrived down at 3.30pm and got my rods set up, spent the next hour or so staring at idle tips, not ideal but it was during the day in March. I decided to try a bit of dangling on the spinning rod, and finally got my first fish for the day, a little shorey, boy was he welcome!
Gabbey arrived down and we we were talking I noticed a lot of slack on on a Penell I'd loaded up with Black lug and Mackeral over the back wall, hit it, and it pulled back, awesome! It was a Coalfish in the mid 30's and it was great to know that there'd be a few about!
Before dark I had another 3 identical Coalies along with another Shorey and a Long Spine Sea Scorpion, RESULT! If this is how it was fishing bedfore dark I couldn't wait for the lights to go out so the fish could really come on the feed!
Looked onto the back wall and saw a big bird, thought it was a duck or something, but when I got closer I saw a pheasant, weird to see it down on the end of the Dee!
Dark finally arrived and the tips stood idle, and I couldn't help thinking that we may have got it wrong, but eventually the bites came back on, and in 5 minutes of absolute hilarity I watched as Gabbey dragged a lovely Doggie from the middle of the harbour, then hammer an equally nice Coalie over the back wall!
Meanwhile I caught 2 little pouting and then a 25cm Whiting, Chunky little fella... 2 other guys came down to fish over the wall, I didn't see them getting anything while we were there. At 9.30 we decided it was time to pack up, but not before Gabbey managed one last whiting, also in the mid 20's.

Good way to spend the afternoon and night, definitely fished better for the Coalies during the day mind...

Seen plenty of pheasants around Portavoe & Orlock but never on a pier!

I remember going to Clandeboye Estate the week before Christmas years ago to set up a party for that evening. When we were driving in there were literally hundreds of pheasants everywhere. When we were inside decorating the Banqueting Hall we heard lots of banging.

When we were leaving at Lunchtime we saw only one pheasant and it was looking a bit nervous. I can't imagine what might have gone on?
Species List 2012 (Me) - Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Plaice, Codling, pollack, dab, SS Scorpion Fish, Ballan Wrasse, Codling.
