Greystones Harbour, 17th March

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and Fishface

Duration6-30pm-10pm:

Tide:high at 8pm

Weather:Dry,,,then lashing rain,,,,then windy and cold,,,then lashing rain again,,apart from that not too bad

Bait:mack and squid

Rigs: 2 hook flappers

Results:pollock and coalies

Report: Couldn't resist going out on my 50th birthday,,,,,,as I thought there wouldn't be anyone out  ,,,,,,but I was wrong  . Fishface arrived the same time as me and we got a spot on the pier handy enough. There were about 6 other anglers, all non Irish i'd say given their use of foreign languages  They were getting the odd dog or two,,,,,,as they were in a position to lash the baits out to sea,,,,,,,,,myself and Fishface had to contend with dropping down over the side. I was using my light 11'6'' salt bass rod to get some sport and it wasnt too long before I got a small pollock,,,,blank out of the way  . I had some frozen lug but didnt get a nibble on it, either did Fishface,,,,,in fact he didnt get a nibble all night,,,,on his own doorstep  there again, he only came out for the craic,, and to wish me a Happy Birthday,,,,and he'll probably blame the bait I gave him  . The rain started to come down,,,,light at first,,,then a steady downpour with a biting northerly breeze :( . We were glad of our warm gear which also kept us dry) . I felt sorry for one poor lad in particular with a light jacket on who was hopping about all night trying to keep warm :? . I got a couple more small coalies and pollock, all on mack,,, before Fishface decided he had had enough, and started talking about his sore back (which he said was fine earlier  ) and the fact that he only had big hooks (he must've forgotten the fact that he told me he was using small ones earlier on  ). He should have stayed a bit longer, because the fish started to get a bit bigger after he left and in the next hour I got another four pollock and a nice coalie, all on mack. I found that if I dropped down and jiggled it a bit just up off the bottom, I would get a bite, the fish seemed to be a bit higher up in the water(thanks Roger). No monsters but a few fat ones around the 30 cm mark. I left at ten pm to pick the missus up in Bray

i knew when dave took out 3 mack from the bag and studied them first before giving me one there was something up, rotten mack once again, going to get my own supply, lost my traces with small hooks on the far pier, and as my so called fishing buddy was;nt offering any small hooks to me i was left to fish with 1 os, well thats my excuse anyway, but really i was;nt using any bait as i thought id let him catch more than me as a birthday pressy,
