Not quite St. Patrick, but I do try!

#1 Post by last cast lad »

People:Me

Duration:7.00-9.00pm

Tide:Bottom

Weather:calm and mild

Bait:mackeral

Rigs:big mean conger rig :!:

Results:2 conger eel

As well as bringing Christianity to Ireland, Patrick is also fabled for ridding Ireland of snakes so, this being paddys day (and the mild weather with just a hint of high pressure and a calm sea) it seemed as good a day as any to go snake hunting  Got down onto the rocks after work and bait in the water before dark and then it was just a matter of settling back to relax, at least until the ratchet began screaming and it was action stations. (Last time I went congering I lost what could well have been a pb, looked like a good 30, right at my feet :x because the net I had was one of those folding jobs which was a bit floppy  , so the next day a visit to john mclaughlin, my local tackle store got me a big bad bold mean net capable of capturing any beast :!:) So landing net in hand and the eel now on the surface saw me scrambling down the rocks all the time keeping the eel on the surface and after a few attempts netted the fish which weighed in at 10lb 2 oz :D :D :D This was later followed by a young strap of 4lb 2oz(forgot to photograph this one) and then a few dropped runs and I lost in the rough  Not sure what our friend patrick would think of it but as usual I did return both snakes.
