Lovely fish Sandra!
On the subject of worms, looked into it last year when I found a live tape-worm in a salmon. Did a lot of reading as I didn't want to waste one of the few salmon I catch. As long as you cook it well, there's no threat to your health.

Photo doesn't really provide much of a clue, as you can't see the fins. If it's a tub it's a decent fish but if it's a red it really is a monster. Looks like a tub to me but really hope it is a red.

Given the names mentioned above who are unsure what species it is, I think its fair to assume that it doesnt have the tell tale blue wings.Etihad wrote:Photo doesn't really provide much of a clue, as you can't see the fins. Looks like a tub to me too...sorry Sandra!
Check the lateral line running from head to tail.
If it is a raised seam it's a tub if it is "ribbed" it's a red! From your photo the fish looks to have a seam to me!
Cracking fish though!Well done!

Nice fish, I have never seen one even half the size, what a wooper, I hope it takes the record
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

No blue tinge on the wings Paddy, they were completely black, that's what threw us. It looks like a tub, though.PaddyB wrote:Given the names mentioned above who are unsure what species it is, I think its fair to assume that it doesnt have the tell tale blue wings.Etihad wrote:Photo doesn't really provide much of a clue, as you can't see the fins. Re: Potential New Record Red Gurnard
We get reds up here in Plague proportions but none anywhere near that size!
