Hi all,

Is their many going to this show, or dose anyone know anything about it?
Would it be as big as the last show in Dublin, angling ireland missed that one.

I just looked at the website and it looks like the fly fishermen will be in their element. Don't think I will bother going if the website is anything to go by.

The problem is theres more money to be made at fly and course fishing..... Shore gets left out because theres lass of a demand.

Considering there is now a dedicated fly fishing show in November in Galway you would think that they might start catering for something else.

There is a soft plastic revolution going on all over the place at the moment. There is one idea... get some good lure suppliers in as well and your nearly there. Don't think I'll bother this year.

Had a stand at the show last year promoting the shore and boat fishing on the Beara and was kept fairly busy talking to shore anglers for the two days. Also there was Henry Gilbey and the south east guides talking bass plus a few stands with sea gear on that I couldn't resist.
Cannot compare it to the Swords show as I did not go there but it is seems so stupid to have two shows in Dublin selling the same thing.
Might it not be better to have one in the south of the country?

was at the last 2 years its ok a few decent bargains to be picked up and like mentioned above henry gibney was full of good info and answered all questions there are some great stands for lure fishing but there is a lot of it aimed at the fly fishermen but i reckon its worth 10 quid to go

Like Paul above I had a stand at this show last year and at the first year of the show. I had a few reasons for doing this the major one for me was to push the profile of bass fishing as a valid alternative when compared to that of trout and salmon. In other words we have a saltwater game fish too in this country and Irish people are activley working in that arena, have been for quite a while in fact!

Over both sets of days I met a LOT of people whom were very interesting and indeed interested in the fishing and what I had been doing in Wexford - for me as an exhibitor it was a great experience on both weekends. This year I cannot put a stand on the show but again I am making an effort to get to City West to do a short presentation during saturday morning - I want to keep the little momentum I have as regards that 'profile' of bass fishing as active as I possibly can in the game fishing world -

My short presentation is based around both the differences and similarities that exist between soft plastics and saltwater flyfishing for Bass - with a little tactical help along the way for the angler

My self and sod went along today as we had free tickets both of us walked around twice and left, found it absolutely rubbish

Went myself on sat. Mainly to hear jims presentation and then see Henry gilbey demonstrate soft plastics. Apart from that I wasn't impressed. Limited sea angling gear available and that which was looked poor quality apart from the few recognised brands. Really disappointed not to see more soft plastics there. Worth the ten euro just for Jim and Henry alone, the rest was poor!

I too found the show very poor and had left within 15 mins of arriving. The Swords expo was better but I still feel that these shows are not representative of real angling in Ireland, the organisers of both shows should reappraise their business modal.

They are too orientated towards game fishing and have a tendency to latch onto the next big thing which at the moment as we all know is soft plastic lure fishing. What's with beach casting these days, or inshore dinghy angling, are they the poor relation?

Irish tourist angler stats show that sea angling is the dominant sector with 33% market share,followed by game angling(trout, sea trout, and salmon combined) also coming in at 33%, coarse fishing sits at about 19%. A 2009 survey on Scotland's angling market put sea angling streets ahead of game angling combined in terms of turnover.

These figures are telling because they reflect the overall market, and not only should the organisers of these shows take notice, but also the people who publish the Angling magazines in Ireland, and most importantly Inland Fisheries Ireland who in my opinion have a very poor record apart from Michael Hennessy down in Cork of promoting sea angling in this country.
