greystones 28/2/12

#1 Post by roger de dodger »

People:eyesreilly fishface me and timmy turner

Duration:7 ish till 12

Tide:low at 8.30 ish

Weather:nice then a mini tornado then dead calm

Bait:mac squid crab and lug

Rigs:3 hook flaps

Results:pouting ,coalies, pollock, scorpions, whiting, shore rockling,3 beard rockling, and a cod, dave might have another speices but i think i covered them all

Report:as i drove into the harbour fishface was going home  when i got down to meet dave i could understand why the wind had picked up and was blowing dave around the harbour like a ping pong ball bouncing him around the wall  managed to set up without anthing blowing into the sea ,rods where bouncing making it hard to see bites  within an hour all was flat calm and we got down to some nice fishing ,rod tips busy and some nice pollock taking our baits ,dave packed up just after timmy(the birthday boy with his new rod) arrived as his stomach was making more noise than the mini hurricane from earlier on  i was getting a few pouting so decided to rig up a conger bait ,a whole pouting not a touch for half an hour when i noticed a twitch and reeled in ,my 4/0 pennel was bare  the whole fish was eaten by the crabs, ect ,packed away that rod and as timmy wasnt getting many fish i advised him to fish shorter and maybe move over to where dave had been as it is a mini hotspot :D things went quiet then and i noticed timmys rod was getting a nibble,he lifted into the rod and it bent double  snagged? nope it was nodding nicely 8) as he hauled it up and got to the surface he felt a ping as something gave ,and he wound up a nice codling that threw up a 15 cm rockling at his feet ,bottom snood had parted /being bitten through ,still he was a happy man a nice supper for his birthday present 8)

Looks like 5 and a half hours was too short,,,I should have stayed longer  . Happy birthday Timmy, nice fish!. Was a good session with plenty of fish being caught, I had coalies, pollock, whiting and pouting,,,,,,,,,,not as many as Roger ,,,who was pulling in doubles and trebles all night,,but I did have a few doubles and some nice fat pollock,,,,,,,,up to 32cms  Hard luck to Greystones native Neil Brown, aka Fishface, who, fishing on his home patch unfortunately drew a blank,,,,despite being in the hotspot  . While most of the fish were caught in darkness, there were also a few coalies and a nice pollock caught in daylight, which cant be bad for February. A good session ,,,well worth staying through the Hurricane for. Below are a few of the fish we caught with Rogers first

That mack caught the pollock and the big cod later on,,,,,,he local lad found a bit that you dropped in your hurry to skidaddle when the wind picked up
