PB Clare 25/02/2012

#1 Post by Conger »

People: Me & James

Duration: 3 to 7pm

Tide: Incoming

Weather: Perfect

Bait: Peeler and Lug

Rigs: 2 hook flappers

Results: Me - 1 Bass, James - 1 Flounder and 3 tennis balls :D :D :D :D

Report:
Managed to get a green card today so James and myself decided to hit and try a mark in Clare since i had not fished Clare since last October. So hit down for low water to collect a bit of lug, so with me on digging duties and James on Collecting duties we managed to get some fine lug and a van full of sand due to someone making sand angels    its the only way i think he could have managed to get the amount of sand that he did..... Quick stop for a bit of grub and we were off to our mark. Set up 2 rods each and we were off. Staggered my 2 rods, one at distance and one in close, because of last years fishing i did not have great expectations but it was great to be out with himself in tow.... James decided that he needed to practise his casting a bit so spent a wee while flinging leads as far as he could, with one or two landing well with in my safety zone    about an hour into things and the tide started to push in so we were moved back closer to the shore line. As i was casting one of my rods his nibs pointed out to me that my other rod was gone pure slack, so once i had my other rod set i started to tighten up the slack and suddenly felt something stir :? there was a bit of weed around so automatically i presumed that was what i had as i seem to be a magnet for week at the moment  :D :D i could still feel something so i decided to bring in the line as i got the line closer to the shore i realised that i had a fish on but he was swimming directly towards me, did not see the fish until he was close to me and he turned and took off like a bullet  this is where the penny clicked that i had something decent on, panic set in as i struggled to turn him while trying to balance on a slippery rock while my son pointed out that i actually had a fish   he is used to me blanking :?  got the fish to shore and the heart rate shot through the roof :D :D on shore was a beauty of a bass that weighed in at 11lb my first ever double figure bass, and measured 70cm   this is where i became a gibbering eejit so much so that James turned and said, Dad there are people around would you calm down :D :D :D :D oh to be mature   11yrs of age going on 30 :!: :!: Just before we packed up James got a lovely strong rattle and pulled up a lovely wee half pounder flounder  Happy days, tow happy chappies off home

Cracking bass there Seamus and to take it there in daylight is a fair achievement. Well done.
