HOW TO STOP LOSING LURES!

#1 Post by JAFFUSMAXIMUS »

Hi All

I have some brand spanking new Viva Parade Lures and I am ready for action, does anyone have advice on how to stop loosing them freely. I know it will happen at some stage to lose a few but if I can make them last as long as possible my wallet would be thankful.

Thank you, kopidol. I'm going to add that nugget to my list of advices, right alongside "How to prevent sea-sickness- hug a tree."

Jaffus,
Spinning can be like gambleing, you have to take the risk in order to win. No matter what you do while spinning with sinking lures you will always lose one or two.
If your using mono try getting yourself some good braid it helps a bunch - until you want to snap it off that is. (power pro I use)
I tend to get my lures back with a messed up treble but I get my lure back all the same.
You can also try attaching an old spark plug or lead sinker to your line and letting it slide down to the lure knocking the lure free from the snag, works sometimes.
Just a few ideas.
Happy spinning.

I dont know if you use braid or mono but if your using 15ib to 20ib braid there is a possibility to pull out a snagged lure by directly applying pressure to the line slowly, first of all wind in any slack and point the rod towards the snagged lure then gently pull the rod slowly back until everything goes solid and then hold the pressure on the line for a bit as this sometimes bends the trebles and lure will break free.
Then use a small long nose pliers to bend the treble points back to shape.

On the other hand if your fishing a very productive area that,s snaggy use cheap lures.

Hope this helps

Change your trebles for single hooks. You'll be amazed how difficult it is to lose one. You can literaly scrap the rocks and still recover your lure. You will lose one every now and again though, nothing is 100% proof!

Thx all, I will def change hooks anyway, I will be targeting Sea Trout and heard it would be better for their mouths.

Their mouths and your skin... Don't forget to de-barb them too!

Good luck!
