Let me get this right.... they landed £63M worth of fish and were fined 1M. No mention of recovering the money for the illegal landed fish.... Sounds like a bit of Ireland has infected Scotland... Madness. In my mind this actually promotes illegal fishing... FFS

Agree MAC.
When ya actually look at whats handed down as 'Punishment' to people involved in illegal fishing here or abroad it really kills the motivation to help enforcement of the current laws IMO.

I watched the story on sky news last night, the fisheries lad that they were interviewing said that the skippers were using some of the biggest trawlers in the uk and that this was nothing but pure greed. Although they recovered 3 million pounds and are going to start repossion orders against the skippers, (lot of things in the wifes name i bet) i dont understand why the trawlers were not taken off them. This was just one corner of the shetlands and 63 million pounds of "black" fish was landed in a few years, i think its frightening to even think of the amount of "black" fish being landed in uk and irish coastlines every year and in reality, a blind eye is being turned and the commercial trawlers want more quotas. They should have been jailed, if any other crime involved stealing 63 million pounds worth of stock (except bankers), ye wouldn't see daylight for years. Too many buddies in government, same ole sh**e.
Good things come to those who bait.
