Hi Guys,
I was wondering could anyone recommend which rig works best when drifting. I'l be going out on a 17ft Macliner off the east coast.
Cheers

Re: Drifting - Which rig works best?
It depends over what type of ground you are drifting and what species you are targeting.
3 up can be very effective over most types of ground but 3 down/flowing trace can work well over sand on a quick drift.
You can mix and match 1 up 2 down,2 up 1 down.
On a quick drift don't lose contact with the bottom by letting out too much line.
Braid is best, nylon is a waste of time.
Allow bites to develop and don't strike too quickly.

Cheers fastnet! We will prob be drifting quite slowly! Not sure if the seabed is sandy or rocky. Hoping to target some nice size pollock or cod!

Re: Drifting - Which rig works best?
For both the target species I have found gilling a whole sandeel to produce good results for me. Also gilling the small black eels (not sure of name but same idea as a Eddystone eel but in a 2 or 3 inch size) have been consistent for pollock for me with a few cod and coleys along the way.
Good luck
Ps. If it's a clean sandy bottom you are probably best fishing hard on the bottom instead of gilling as it wouldn't be the textbook usual haunt for cod/pollock
