#1 Post by robbiekennedy »

People .me and a friend

Duration:2 sessions 4 hours each.3rd and 7th feb

Tide:low and incoming both

Weather:both nights breezy south east

Bait:fine big lugs

Rigs:all sorts

Results:hello all, with the south east wind blowing i had a look at ballyquin and it just screamed fish so away to dig and got plenty for a good session, long story short caught nothing not a bite so decided to try goat island and same thing so packed up and decided it must be something we were doing wrong,we said we would try again in a few days and try we did, tried east ballyquin this time again looked superb thought only a matter of time but no so away to whiting bay and still nothing.ive never seen it so bad,i grew up about half mile from ballyquin and know when that place fishes best,i just cant figure it out.oh well it was nice to get out anyway,if i keep telling myself that it might make it better   :( :(

Tough going in alot of places at the moment but when certain people are constantly killing every bass whether within limits or not on ballyquinn i too would expect the fishing to be a bit slow  and certainly does'nt help matters.Oh the individuals involved are not from faraway countries either  .Infact i reckon they are fairly well known on the waterford scene  .

your right there some nights there could be 12 or 15 rods there, even if they took their legal share at 2 a person it would not be long before they are wiped out and last year during the ban was a joke i was on ballyquin beach with the kids and there were 9 fishing they were hardly there for the flounder

A few years ago Ballyquin was a great mark once there was a decent surf you could be certain of a few bass but I have found it very poor over the last 9 months, fished it a number of times and havn't seen a bass.

I was fishing another beach last night, where I had a few bass a couple of weeks ago and blanked as well, there was a nice surf, I was fishing the optimal time according to Solunar predictions, had a couple of nibbles which were probably small coalfish ot flat fish. This time last year I had some great sessions on that beach, usually had several bass, plenty of codling and a few coalfish. I remember fishing there one night either on the full moon or new moon tides (same stage of tide, last of ebb, first three hours of the rise) and got five bass, biggest was about 6 lb if I recall correctly.
Cod season Winter 2013/14: 117 cod (best fish: 6.5 lbs)
Cod season Winter 2014/15: 193 cod (best fish: 4.25 lbs)

Bass Totals:
2007: 1
2008: 37
2009: 120
2010: 44
2011: 151
2012: 79
2013: 20
2014: 19
2015: 11
2016: 3

your right it was very good fishing up to the ban last year then just seem to fade away.i remember when i was in school 12 or 15 years getting home and cycling to ardmore beach to dig a few lug charge back to the house make excuses to the mother that for some reason we had no homework today [never worked though   ]and head down beach and have great sport i think my best was 18 in one night the same night twice i had 2 fish on the one cast .the memories

unlucky robbie it just a shame with so called anglers fishing and takeing bass during the ban as yous have some of the best bass beaches in the land down there
i was going to head down in early march for the weekend around the ardmore beaches but might have to think twice now if the fishing does not pick up

Unlucky lads,as a few of the posts said that beach was fishing well early last year, some very nice locations around it fished well also.It really annoys me to hear of those taking bass during the ban  .Was hoping to head over that way next week for a late tide may have to reconsider

I read the cliff house hotel cook book and the chef there says that he is always being offered sea bass from anglers to buy now he also says he wouldn't buy it because of the laws
