Anyone put a fish finder in a kayak recently?

I have mine in a plastic container and it shoots through the hull with a motorcycle battrey for power ,which it only takes about a sixth of its power in 8hours,tons of power, i have a garmin 140 and it has seen plenty of seawater splashed over it, i have the transponder in a container filled with glicerian?that i got from the chemist, instead of water as theres less chance of bubbles being under the transponder and its easier to seal

You would get the Garmin Echo 100 for around €100.
The Echo 300 is a thing of beauty though

I'm no expert as I'm only new to kayaking but I've done a fair bit of research and the Eagle Cuda 300 gets a lot of good reviews from kayakers too. I've just installed one in my kayak - a wilderness systems ride 135. I used Sikaflex to fix mine inside the hull. Reasonably easy and can be removed easily if necessary in the future. Don't want to be out of line here but a lot of good advice on Irish kayak angling site if you're stuck

I have the echo 100 in my kayak, nice bit of kit and good price. Has been capsized and under water without a bother!

If you are looking at the Garmin range, it is worth considering the Garmin echo 150 over the echo 100 model as the echo 150 model comes with a dual frequency transducer, i.e narrow beam for deep water and wide beam for shallow water, whereas the 100 model is only single beam and only around €15 cheaper.
However as already mentioned by another contributor, the colour echo 300c is indeed a thing of beauty at around €249. If you google Marine Web Store Ireland, they have a full range as well as some info page on how the transducers work.
