lipped flies
Just wondering ,if u tie a fly with a small lip like a plug would it make any difference,anyone ever make any?

They can help add some movement to the fly... The fly won't dive like a lure. Most of the lips you tie in cause the fly to wobble. No harm in tying a few and see how you get on

I am by no means a expert at all but I have been shown a "flutter" type fly that was tied with flounder in mind.
The yanks use spoon flies for redfish and the likes I believe.
Gurglers can be tied with a V shape lip to create a wake/pop and tied certain ways with the foam they would dive slightly.As do poppers have a concave face/lip
Casting i imagine would be hindered too.
A lip is on a plug so it fishes a certain water level - The right flyline/weighted fly can present at whatever level you want.

unless the fly is well balanced they tend to cause the fly to spin on your backcast. better off to use varying dumbell eyes to give flies differnt actions.
