Greystones pier, Co Wicklow, 27/1/2012

#1 Post by fenris »

People: Two kids (Rory (7) and Eimear(6 and first time out)) and I

Duration: 17:00 - 1930

Tide: rising to full

Weather: cold and breezey

Bait: lug

Rigs: 2 & 3 hook flappers

Results:
2 Pollock, 1 Whiting, 1 Wrasse, 1 Three Beard Rockling (all less than 20 cm) two really happy kids

Report:

Drabbed the kids from afterschool and headed for Greystones with the intention of getting started in daylight and continuing until it got a little bit dark, kids has their head torches packed!

Dropped into John in Gotcha, he sorted me out with a rod of my own (13" beach caster), a rod for Eimear (Jarvis Walker 6") and various bitts and bobs, he also setup everything with two excited kids running riot in the shop and me asking lots of probably quite idiotic questions!

I took Wayne's advice and got a baiting needle - made things much easier with the kids, we just used lug.

Rory's first fish ever was a Pollack swiftly followed by another, just as Eimear was starting to think that she wasn't going to catch anything she caught her first ever fish a little whiting (that may have been a pollack!), you may have heard her high pitched squeals of "Dad I caught a fish, i caught a real fish and its wriggling"

A fantastic evening out - thanks guys!

8) great to get the kids out in the fresh air and getting a few fish! i hate that wall for some reason every time i set up on it the wind picks up and attempts to blow my gear off the wall  the place is good for kids and always has a few fish especialy at dusk and into darkness :D
