Report:hard to see bites,but got a few only one hook up ,expected better results but as some of you know that beach can be hard to get any result from so happy enough,didnt bother with a pic was up to me watsits and the phone was in the inside pocket and didnt fancy lettin the heat out

I'd say that water was cold.fair play in connecting with the flounder..there are much bigger ones there that's for sure.

Never got any huge ones but have seen them,yea water was freezing but i wasnt too cold was wearing a diving dry suit liner as my first layer ,great bit of kit id highly recomend them

Damn I was lookin at the weather last night wondering if anyone was out!! Was it raining there? cause just down the road it WAS POURING HERE!! Fair play to you for sticking it out!!.. I have often seen the bigger flats there but no matter what bait I offer them they just dont interested? I've even tried spinning the smaller flats showed alot of interest in fact one little fellow followed it up to my feet but the bigger ones stayed away, I know a couple of fly fishermen that have actual stood on them! I wonder whats up with them there?!?!? just gonna throw something out and see if Im even thinking on the rioght grounds would they becoming in there to spawn?

Its s strange one alright,i stood on one last summer nearly knocked me over he was about twice as long as my foot

2 or 3 medium sized lug (fresh) tipped with mak should do the trick, the bigger ones should be knocking around next month.

Tried it, also fresh mack, razor, rag, a cocktail and peeler, small ones no problem but the bigs ones just dont seem to be on the feed out there, I could see one (would have been easier just to grab it!!) put the bait in front of it and trailed it in a bit, a smaller one went for it while the big one snubbed it!!, Went down to where a friend recommeneded (he's a fly fisher) been fishin Laytown 30+ years even threw everything I had in there to see if they'd come on but nope! fussy little fellas! Maybe they'll be hungry next month as you say
Another mark where i notice fish can be very fussy is Greystones had the best of lug going out not a tap, as soon as I changed to Mack world of difference, everything went for it, hence why i have started this year going out with various baits rather then just the normal two or three

I know some lads use stinkin, rotten lug for flounder and it seems to work better than any fresh bait, but then again second guessing a fish is what its all about.

If the weed isnt too bad, try dropping your snood's down to 6 or 8lb flouro, and using small clear 4 way beads or very small swivels and size 4 or 6 match hooks, 25lb trace body and a 1-2oz rolling lead painted white, bait presentation is also very important.

I've noticed on that beach the bigger flounder seem to be a bit more wary than the smaller fella's, but they can be caught with the right tactics.

I wouldnt be fishing them tactics too often myself as I'm usually targetting the mythical Laytown bass

lets face it the reason they are that big is cos they dont eat hooks and end up in a frying pan long snoods ,very long can help,also a flounder loves a moving bait so ditch the grippers

Yeah when I chase flounders (which is often) I use rollers, and the tips regardin the snoods yep, I tried and English method using a spoon and I had an interest but no take, the funny thing is ya can see them I think I'll up the game and dress in Camo next time and I only want to catch em on a hook, before anybody says spear em I'll try droppin hook sizes right down next time was using 1, 1/0, 2/0s max thanks for the ideas lads one day i'll get a good laytown flat!! (that just sounds wrong?!?!)
