Inishowen, Co. Donegal 21 & 22-1-2012

#1 Post by Sweetwrasse »

People:Ciaran McFish and myself

Duration:21st; 16.30-20.30. 22nd; 15.00-18.30

Tide: HW 17.30 and 18.10

Weather: Gale force NW. Light showers.

Bait: Lug, mack and wraps

Rigs: 3-hook flappers

Results: 21st; Blanks all round. 22nd; A flounder apiece.

Report:
Traveled home for the weekend and as always packed the rods even though the weather was looking a bit fresh! Saturday afternoon came so decided to have a look at a few marks. First one the wind was gusting down the beach and was not feeling the inclination for braving it so headed to a more sheltered NE facing mark. Arrived to find a crowd of people watching a chemical tanker trying to enter the mouth of the Foyle. The pilot boat couldn't get out to it and it was rolling about badly in the swell but it eventually made it to calmer waters and safety. That drama over, myself and Ciaran strolled down to the beach for a look. It was more promising on a comfort front anyway so we decided to try it out. Not a nibble for the next 4 hours and no sign of the northern lights either which we were hoping to get a look at :( Anyway got a bit of very fresh air and a good chat so could have been worse!

Had a fair amount of unused bait from yesterdays session so, with the wind having died down slightly and having thought of another sheltered mark to fish, headed out to fish the rising tide and the first hour or so of darkness. Fishing was slow again but Ciaran was first off the mark with a flounder to 31 cm. Fished on alone after his departure for a few hours and was rewarded with a flounder to 31 cm (what odds on it being the same fish?) just as the light was fading. Overall, just glad to get my first fish of 2012 in my third session. Straight home to update the species list from zero to one

Too true, but it's better for the mojo if you have at least one score on the door!
