Greystones Harbour perfect for kids 21/1/2012

#1 Post by chenz116 »

People: Magpie01, me & and my daughter KR (age 6) & my nephew

Duration: 12pm-3.30pm

Tide: dropping low at 3.30pm

Weather: cold and windy

Bait: fresh lug, frozen mac

Rigs: two hook flapper

Results:magpie - zero, me - sea scorpion , KR - Pollack

Report: Decided to bring my little one out to greystones harbour to see how she'd get on with some fishing as she is always wanting to come out with me. We got to greystones and it was fairly over cast and windy so we wernt expecting to be there for long as it looked liked it was gona lash. But we set up anyway and said we'd give it a go. To my suprise she loved every min of it, even putting her own lug on. I casted out for her the first time and she wasnt impressed, She reeled it in as she wanted to do it her self. So I showed her how to do it and she managed to get it about 5 feet but she obviously knew what she was doing because a few mins later she pulled in a Pollack. Was only a small one but it might as well of been a great white shark to her she was over the moon. She wasnt to impressed though when i told her she couldnt keep it. I had to explain about catch and release for about 10 mins then she was ok. I was so busy looking after her i had forgotten about my own rod and when i reeled it in there was a sea scorpion on it, first time im caught one eveil looking things !! didnt get any more bites after that although the fella beside us caught a fair few coalie and pollock but again all small ones.

So we left happy enough first fish for KR and a new speices for me.

On another note anyone with young kids looking to bring them fishing its a prefect spot the wall is very thick and high enough that no one is gona fall over it.

Nice 1 man, i guess they can not wait to tell their friends, if you did not print photos yet, print photos and give them to show their friens, it will rise interest for fishing even more...
