Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
No need for a guide . The lifey holds plenty of pike from Lucan to celbridge and is easily accessible . Try using a plug around the dispensery in liexlip from the end of the walk right up to the dam and above the dam is great for static deadbait or using a flying c . Drifting a roach or works well to . Another great spot is on the far bank of the canoe club . All methods work . If you want any more advice pm your number and I'll give you a bell

No bother,I'll send a few this evening but the ones in my previous post would be a good start . This time of year pike fishing is a bit slow as the fish as less active in the winter but if you stick it out you'll be rewarded with some fine fish .

Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
My bold. How does that work with the Liffey being closed for Salmon angling? Wouldn't you have a bit of tricky persuading to do if an IFI baliff reckoned you were salmon angling?Preston wrote:No need for a guide . Well as long as you have your course licence you'll be fine. Once they see your Wire trace that'll Kill any suspicion as the majority of angling activity is course in that area .

Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
I also forgot to add that the salmon only hold in one pool in the liexlip stretch which is unaccessable to the public . The run of salmon is minute now only with single figures of fish passing over the dam on a daily basis.

Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
Thanks lads, been piking plenty of times, blessington included, (day pass is a fiver) but fancy a day out with an expert to put me in with the biggies!
Gonna give Danny Anderson a go I think, €150 for day out a selected lake,
seems reasonable

Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
Sorry but following the above advice needs to be put in the context of the below:Preston wrote:No need for a guide . The lifey holds plenty of pike from Lucan to celbridge and is easily accessible . Firstly all fishing is banned from the confluence in the Leixlip dispensary up to the dam. There are clear signs. If you are caught fishing here by the IFI inspectors and/or local waterkeepers you will be given no second chances and at a minimum could have your gear legally seized.
Secondly from the confluence to the dam is private land on both sides and no permission is given to fish so you are tresspassing.
Thirdly the fishing rights are owned along a long stretch of the liffey between lucan and lexilip village by the local club and again is signed in several places for example at the back of the pipe factory.
Fourthly there is a ban on using any other methods aside from a single barbless hook on the liffey if you are using treble hooks on a plug you are breaking this bye law and are liable for prosecution.
Fifthly all salmon angling is banned on the liffey as you stated. If you are caught fishing with a known salmon lure such as a flying C you run the risk of being potentially prosecuted this is possibly a grey area however I personally would not risk it. The courts and judges do not mess around on charges of illegaly fishing for salmon.
Preston I do not know you and I mean no disrespect to you but I would really request that you reconsider how you give your advice, some of what you are suggesting could get someone in a lot of trouble.

Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
I take your points on board and as far as the pathway to the dam i should have put to the confluence as the other side is inaccessable as stated regarding the salmon pool. As far as fishing rights the canoe club is between celbridge and liexlip and as far as the Lucan stretch can membership not be sought ? I stand firm on my stance regarding the flying cs with a trace and i do and have fished single barbless as on my deadbait rigs . If we were to discount flying cs on the chance of hooking a salmon we might as well get rid of all rapalla's and mepps too as well as spoons . Its my belief that a salmon doesn't go on the feed once it enters freshwater and takes out of nothing more than annoyance or aggression. I have fished for salmon for most of my life and I do have a strong stance on pro conservation

Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
Thanks for that reply.
The confluence to the salmon leap bridge is indeed fishable on the hotel side bank. The other side is private.
From the Salmon Leap bridge down to Lucan demesne is the club water but yes you can join the club if you want to.
On the flying C use thats up to you but I know that the wire trace argument has been used and rejected. There were two guys approached by IFI officers at the confluence last year fishing with flying Cs fitted with single hooks and very light wire traces but I think they were warned to stop. This may depend on where you are fishing. I guess its up to you if you want to risk it.

Re: Best Pike Guide in/around Dublin
I understand the argument on the home made light Wire traces between the two swivels which is akin to what we use for salmon to improve lure action. I personally use the heavy black ready to use rigs and I feel there is no doubt on my intended catch. Its unfortunate that peoples greed and ignorance towards conservation has created this situation . I'm glad to see your comments and I hope there are more like you to spread the word on conservation and hope its heard and the Lifey becomes the great angling haunt it used to be when i grew up . Its been seven years since I've lived in Liexlip so Apologies to all for the inacuracy in my original post.
