Report:
Had done a trip over the Christmas with my oldest lad James but had a big dirty blank so had promised to take him off again espeically since he had bought a load of gear in Dan's after Christmas, just like me, google eyed and attracted by new bright shiny things    .Leaving Limerick i thought to myself seems a bit breezy but off we go :!: by the time we got to Youghal the bit breezy had just gone mad  Met up with Bhoy32 and got some fresh crab, cheers for that john. Next question was where the hell to try and fish, my boss on this trip was all guns for giving it a shot, drove around for a while after a call to John (cheers again John) decided on trying Ferry point on the opposite side to what i am used to fishing, easier with the small man in tow. Got everything set up and started fishing. With the wind it was difficult to even make out anything but stuck with it. James was first off the mark with a small whiting and a crab :D happy days, he was over the moon, then he started getting abusive ' ha dad, your second trip with no fish so far '  :D just like my better half  .Thankfully i saved face soon after with a lovely 2lb codling :D .Met Junior Conger and his dad, good to meet ye lads, i think most lads on the night felt what the hell are we doing out in this but all kept going. James got off the mark again with another small whiting, he was absolutely chuffed, job done. We started to pack up and i noticed that i still had a couple of peelers left so threw on a couple as a last cast as we broke down James's gear. At this stage i had already missed a decent fish and we were picking up muscles and chunks of weeds and rocks all joined together  . Had most of the stuff packed away and came back to my last cast rod, it had that big clump of weed look about so started hauling and as the weed came close to the shore it started to swim  underneath a nice big clump of weed there was another pound and a half codling, i think it is the first time that i said 'this is the last cast' and actually caught on that cast :D :D :D great session, James had a ball and has the fishing bug

Good to meet you on Saturday at John's "crab pick-up location".
At least you got a few fish for your efforts and the young lad enjoyed himself.
I had to abandon my attempt at beach fishing later that evening as the southeasterly winds turned into a gale and my 6 oz grippers were ripped up and carried in on the surging surf within minutes of casting out, although I did get a few codling the following evening at a more sheltered location.
Cod season Winter 2013/14: 117 cod (best fish: 6.5 lbs)
Cod season Winter 2014/15: 193 cod (best fish: 4.25 lbs)

Good to meet you Rockhunter, James had a ball on the day, it really blew up on the day, i looked at a couple of spots but where we ended up was the best option with James fishing, things were fine but once the tide turned it was hard to hold the bottom, and at least James had a couple of fish to boot

Cheers John, and thanks a mill for the crab and the help, my God he has gone on so much about the coalies he caught to anyone who would listen God help us when he lands a whooper :D :D :D :D
