whiterocks beach, portrush co. antrim fri 13th jan 12

#1 Post by the-ghost »

People: me and jc

Duration: 20.00 -00.30

Tide: h/w 10ish

Weather: dry, light s/w, baltic

Bait: rag, mack, sandeel

Rigs: various

Results: flounders, whiting, rockings, coalies

Report: havent been out in a while and after a check of the weather a plan was hatched. the team met up in mine for afew beers on thursday night to discuss were we were going to go. a load of banter but couldnt decide were to go. first thing friday mornin rab phoned in sick. got bait sorted friday afternoon and hit the road at 6. decided on a new mark on the way up the road but looked at it and decided we would go on up the road and fish one of the surf beaches at portrush. whiterocks was first up so had a look, sheltered with nice gentle surf. got set up and didnt have to wait long for the first fish of 2012, a flounder for me. from then on it was basicallly a fish a cast with us both getting afew flounder. jc then got double shot of whiting and coalie, then us both getting afew more flounders and coalies. ran out of rag just after midnight and we decided that was the last cast. sat and had a yarn and my rod started dancing, thought maybe a bass here but was a coalie 40cm, happydays. jc pulled in double shot of rockling at the death. all in all a good nights fishing and another new mark on the map. sorry no camera packed so no pics... g

Good going, never tried that spot myself. I was (wishfull) thinking maybe a Bass or Trout also when the Coalies hit as up 'till then It'd been Flounders and Whiting. Nice part of the country to be standing out for a night anyway.

aye dave the coalies can fairly make the rod shake, the first thing comes into your head is bass but when a decent coalie comes in you arent disappointed. and yeah indeed is a nice part of the world to be wetting a line
