youghal 6th jan late report

#1 Post by southaussie »

People:me

Duration:half9 til half1

Tide:low then rising

Weather:mild

Bait:fresh peelers

Rigs:puleys

Results:went to cork for a small family holiday before they went back to school. Picked youghal for a hotel destination :-/. Aranged some local peelers and headed to a deeper part to fish, havnt been out for ages so was lookn forward to a fish or two, started to set up and with some lads from dublin next to me catchn nothn for the last 2 hours wasnt so hopfull. Peeled a nice crab and sent it out, hardly put the rod in the tripod and noticed a small rattle, waited for a minute and rattle again so lifted into I t and fish on:-) happy days a small 30cm codling unhooked and sent fresh bait out and before I had a chance to unhook the fish the rod took a massive bent sending the tripod crashing and me chasing my rod towards the edge of the water, picked up my rod and could feel a fish resisting :D after a few fun minutes another codling landed but this time much bigger, one of the lads came over for an inspection and bought his scales 4 and a half pounds a nice codling indeed, with the little fish returned in favour of another few larger ones the night went along the same I managed to tie my tripod to a bollard to stop it being pulled over as the fish were hitting hard. all in all I fished for around 4 hours with 4 codling over 4 lbs and one over 5 with a few smaller ones returned a great nite and great holiday made even better on the way home stopped off to watch Munster win in Thomond park, sorry for the short initial report my internet has crashed at home and my smart phone isnt smart enough for my big fingers   pics to follow

"and before I had a chance to unhook the fish the rod took a massive bent sending the tripod crashing and me chasing my r. eport"........he grabbed the rod before it went into the water.. the line was tight.. and the fish dove down but he managed to bully it up..and pulled in a nice size ray" ???
