next stop was in wuming in the south west of china,on the very first day I got to see a fellow electrocuting fish with a homemade setup,he had the electronics in a old oil can on his back and 2 lengths of bamboo with wires running to a net on one bamboo and to a nail on the other,he got 4 fish the biggest about 2lbs

the second day I was there the brother in law gave me his fishing bag and I was showed how to get to his uncles duck pond,when I got there and opened the bag there was only telescopic fishing poles and a few rigs so I had to learn carp fishing pretty fast
for bait his uncle mashed up rice and duck pellets which I had to press on to the hook,it was annoying having to re bait every 2 minutes
I spent 4 hrs getting bites but no hook up until 2 lads came along and showed me where I was going wrong and after that was into fish straight away
I wont forget this session for awhile because 2 fighter planes passed and they were breaking the sound barrier,nearly fell in the lake with the fright
the next time I saw fish was one evening when I was out walking with my son and we came across this

all the fish were in a 60m pool under a motorway and the pool was being fed with water running off the rice fields,the lads pumped water in to a canvas in the back of a truck and hand picked some of the fish in to a barrel where they were weighed and then put in the canvas
the fish looked like catfish to me
I did a lot of early morning sessions lasting a hour or two and here are some of the fish I caught
if any lad is thinking of getting a fish aerator here is a DIY one you can try build
this lad was going around selling live fish from a bag on his motorbike and had this aerator to keep them alive

a lot of the rivers didn't look very clean but there were still fish in them,I was walking along the river in wuming and saw this woman netting fish

I brought my son to the zoo in nanning as well and they had a few displays of fish
next stop on the trip was Guangzhou,I didn't get to fish here but had a lot of fish dinners,even had swim bladder soup wasn't told what it was until it was all gone,very tasty
I had some nice crab as well
could have fished from the place we were staying but didn't have a rod
stopped off in Hong Kong again on the way home and went looking for tackle shops the first one I went to was

very easy to find this shop,take the mtr to Sheung Wan and take exit c to Hillier Street and when outside,cross the road and keep walking straight until the road splits in a y take the road on the right and the shop is on the left,only 5 min walk from the mtr
the second shop is easy to find as well,take the mtr to mong kok,not sure of the exit,I think its c but look in the stations and look for the exit for argyle street and the ladies market,when you get out you should see a 2 lane road and head north until you see the subway crossing over the road,turn right and the shop is along this road on the right,the shop is upstairs but you will see a glass door with a load of tackle stickers on it
from looking at the 2 shops it looks like its mainly float fishing and spinning that is done there,small hooks as well
I didn't see any grip leads or ready made rigs like we use for bait fishing here
you can buy rods and reels cheap in the 2 shops
I went to one tackle shop in wuming and the fellow nearly fell over when he jumped up when he saw me,the thought he was going to get rich fast,noting had price stickers and I asked for the best rod he had,he was looking for 100euro for a rod that was not as good as the cheapest rod you could get in lidl
here's a few tips for shopping in china and Hong Kong
1 don't pay the price that they are looking for,bargain with them
2 if you are looking at electronics like cameras,computers,mp3s etc and if you buy don't let them give you one from the back of the shop,take the one you were looking at,if it leaves your sight walk away
3 price around a few shops and write down the prices and bargain with them,I got 120euro off a camera from one branch of the same store when I compared it to their other store
another trick when out there is not to speak English if anyone come up to you in the street selling some thing,start talking Gaelic
don't let the last few things I said put you off going there,most of the people are very friendly and china and Hong Kong are well worth visiting
you don't need a visa for Hong Kong if you are going for less then 30 days,you will be given a entry form to fill in on the plane
