county antrim pier 02/01/2012

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: just me

Duration: 3pm - 6.30pm

Tide: HW 5.10pm

Weather: 40mph NW gusting to 50mph and intermittant sleet and rain

Bait: lug and mackerel

Rigs: 3 hook flapper and 2 up 1 down

Results: after yesterdays trip got posponed i had 6 big mackerel thawed out in the fridge to use up and a few lug still alive in the fridge from last week. so a wee handy run up the coast was in order. i knew that yesterdays forecast was a hell of a lot more favourable than todays, but what the hell. there was bait to be used and i needed to get out and scratch the fishing itch :D :D :D
i drove up the coast road not really knowing where i was gonna end up at and called into larne angling supplies for a few bits and bobs and a chat with merv before heading off. good to get a yarn with ya man 8)
a few of the beaches on the way up the road seemed to either have loads of kelp and weed on them in the high tide line or a good 100 yards of brown rain water run off against the shore    . so those plans were quickly aborted  .
i got down to my chosen pier and things looked alright. the wind was blowing from behind me and out to sea and the water was cyrstal clear. as i was setting up 3 other lads came over and got to fishing. but no one was getting a knock, i think one of them got a wee coalie just before they left around 4pm, but other than that it was pretty quiet. but as always, as soon as the sun went down the coalies came out to play :P
these wee guys have saved me so many blanks these last few winter months it's unbelieveable. but a fish is a fish in my book and it beats the crap outta blanking any day 8)
most of the fish came in between 5.30pm and 6.30pm but the wind started to pick up and the rain turned to sleet and i decided to wrap it us as i could'nt feel my fingers any more. besides that i still had 8 cans of guinness in the fridge at home i could hear calling to be drank :D :D
not a bad way to pass 3 and a half hours and use up a bit of bait :D
