Achill Island 30.12.2011

#1 Post by Mick001 »

People: Me, Determined Dan & a Mate
Duration: 12:30 – 16:30
Tide: On the Drop
Weather: Wind, Overcast, Rain
Bait: Mac & Sandeel - No Lug or Rag :!:
Rigs: Flappers
Venue: Silver Strand & Keem Bay
Results: Sea Trout
Report: 30/12/2011

Not a lot to report but some pictures of Achill all the same.

Well we have been very quiet on the scene lately with work and one thing another and hadn’t been out in ages. With the X-mass break coming up plans were made as they are most years to get out at least once, this is normally Stevens day. However with the Gale force winds and weather we had over the day coming up to and after x-mass it did not happen.

Yesterday saw a small break in the weather so we decided last thing to go for it and we raided the freezer, rang a mate that is just getting into the shore fishing and picked the 1st venue. I arrived first and set up with the rain and wind starting to pick up again. The other lads arrived and we fished for an hour and a half but then the weed came on hard and fast and it became unfishable. :x
Change of venue…

We headed for keem which we knew would be sheltered by the mountain and set up. The Beach was in perfect condition, not a piece of rubbish and we had it all to ourselves. The Surf and conditions also looked really good. There were 4 cormorants diving in front of us only about 30m or so out from us when we were setting up. However we had no worm baits so I wasn’t expecting too much. Anyway to cut to the chase we fished it for three hours or so without success, until Dan pulled out a nice sea trout which he returned after a couple of snaps. Then the tide turned and I thought to myself that this place could really turn on into darkness. However we had to go as we all had different commitments that evening.

Next time for sure… :!:

All the same great to get out…

To all on the site, best wishes for 2012.

Mick

Thanks for the replys guys, and yes Keem was looking fantastic. Will definately have a full (& night) session there in a couple of months. And as for the Smoothies as Dan said, as soon as they show we will be there in a flash.

Hope 2012 is a good one for you all.
