Seeing is believing

#1 Post by donal domeney »

People: Myself

Duration: about 2-3 hours

Tide: high water

Weather: :D

Bait: lug and crab

Rigs: clip down pulley and 2 hook clipdown

Results: 5 cod, best about 2.5lb and over 10 whiting

Report:
Having seen all the poor reports from de wall I decided to check it out myself this morning. :? :? :?

First thing to check was the flow of fresh water over the weir at Wellington Bridge it makes the difference between carrying on or turning around and heading back up the hill home.
Happy days only a trickle of water coming down the fish run so it was de wall next stop. :D :D :D :D :D

The first two casts produced no fish but I did get a few rattles from what it guessed as been whiting. 8) 8)

I downsized the bait and after that I was in business single whiting on the pulley. With fish showing it was time to get the second rod going. Straight away a double on the 2 hook rig and it was fish every cast for the next hour or so. Added some cod to the tally but as the run of water picked up it was obvious they had opened the dam and it was time to go.
Three anglers to the left of me were struggling to pull a fish.

Don’t get too excited about this report and start heading there. These fish were all caught at distance. If you can see your lead splash then you’re not gone out far enough

Can you manage a full Pendulum at De Wall Donal? I had to seriously modify my cast there and I think a long rod with a fixed spool overhead thump is the way forward there

If you are fishing from the footpath there is plenty of room just wait for the traffic to pass.
The grassy patch is a bit tight you would be better off going outside the railing to cast

Well done Donal, glad to see those nice whiting in your catch and we might get some this year there, they have been missing since that good year about 3/4 years ago now, some great ones then.

Regards Wez

Six oz. but it did not matter as the fish were on the bait as soon as it hit the bottom.
When the tide started to run no lead will hold there.

Just on an added note when I crossed back over Wellington Bridge on the way home it was pure white water coming over the weir. I was right when I said the dam had been opened.
