Rainbows of that size would give good sport on a small river! If theres any salmon parr in the lickey youd maybe want to be removing those big ould rainbows, we have the same situation going on right here, a fella caught a 2.5lb rainbow there in the summer and it had a 7 inch sea trout smolt looking out of its throat, the word gorb comes to mind.

The same boy. I dont know if any research has been done into their movements between salt and freshwater during their life? It might be worth googling but chances are there isnt a [pile of research done on it yet??????

The lickey sounds like an interesting wee river to fish at times. We have a river here with a rainbow farm on it, some of the rainbows go to sea and come back in like steelheads, theyll appear up in neighbouring rivers too. But they ust be having an impact on the salmon parr, as if the salmon arent gettin it tight enough.

There was a big outbreak of rainbow in June Charlie, the river was teeming with them and initially they were very easily caught on anything you threw in the water, there were boys gettin dozens in a few hours. After a week or 2 the ones that hadnt been caught became a bit wilier and werent so suicidal. Was talkin to a young lad at the time, he was getting them on ragworm at the pier. I have had a few sea run rainbow in the river the farm is on and in the Dall, I know fellas who have got them up the Dun too. They all come from the one farm. You know theyve been to sea cos they are like wee salmon, rock solid bars of silver. The migratory gene is in them, or in some of them anyway.
