our fishing was severely hampered this year with my father getting diagnosed with lung cancer and having to get a lung removed and going through chemo. for half the year we had to move back in with the parents to look after them and our fishing took a back seat to more pressing matters. but thankfully i can now look back at the year with relative happiness as the oul fella beat it and is well on the road to recovery complete with a new full head of hair and weight gain. we got out, as and when we could. yet again i have been knocked over with the kindness of fellow anglers on the forum who invited us into not only their favourite fishing marks but their homes too. there are far too many of you to name, but you all know who you are and we have greatly appreciated you kindness and hospitality this year. i only hope we can return the favour and you all get your bums up to the north when our marks are switched on and fishing well as we owe you all a great debt of gratitude and courtsey. some of the following pics are up not because they are specimen fish, but personal bests or new species we have'nt encountered yet, or just plain make me laugh. only 87 sessions so far this year, but next year we'll get our heads well into the game good and proper
enjoy!!

So youre allowed to put up more than one fish then? Happy days, heres the only conger Ive ever caught off the shore, way back in June, spied him/her on the sea bed, offered a side of mackerel on a boat rod and an hour later I was connected.

Not really sure of the weight but it was approx 14-15lb.

My fish of the year was a 9lb painted Ray. I also caught a scorpion fish. I have never even heard of them until I caught one. Caught it using mackeral and fish oil on a rough tide on a rock mark. Also a my first sea trout which was in the cold month of Janurary, which is meant to be strange. Had a decent year I think, had alot of bass but they were mainly schoolies, bigest this year were a few around 4 pounds, must try harder next year.
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

2016 Bass, Flounder, Turbot, Dogfish, Pollock,Mackerel, Bull Huss, Coal Fish

2013 8

2012 (8) Bass (P.B 7.5 lb)

2011 (17)

2010 (14)

Hi all,

Didn't get to do much fishing this year, but did have this nice conger. Not sure of the weight, but, it put up a great fight. Caught along the Cobh waterfront in August 2011, on a fresh Mackerel flapper and 6/0 steel trace, on a rising tide. I literally just dropped the bait over the rail with the drag set pretty loose. The line zipped off pretty lively when she took the bait!

PS: You can get a good idea of the size based on the first picture. Compare the girth of it to my foot or the rod. Im guessing it was over 20 lbs anyway...

Cheers,

Sean.
