Dacron braided line.

#1 Post by petekd »

I see large spools of 30lb Dacron going fairly cheaply on Ebay, has anyone any experience of using this stuff at all? I remember the auld fella using it for boat fishing many moons ago but the world of braided lines has probably moved on considerably since then! Inc P &P its possible to pick up a 500m spool for around the 25.00 euro mark. I have one ordered but if its no use for shore fishing then Ill load up my boat multiplier with it. What yas reckon lads?

Its ok for boat Pete, braid much better though, but I'd say it would be a nightmare to try and use from the shore.

I use it to back up my boat multipliers before I put braid on. :o Never had a problem with it..... as backing it's strong and if needed at any stage probably won't let you down. Don't just bin it, you might be glad some day you had it on the reel. 8)

It will catch a tonne of tide, every other angler on the boat is liable to beg you not to use it.
It's fine if everybody on the boat is using it but one man only with it will spend all day taking out the others. it tangles as bad as braid so after the 5th foul up the other anglers will probalby just cut your line, there's a limit to patience.

yeah its too floaty and thick, u would be better just going with braid.
as said above it does fine for backing to build up the line level on your reel though, put it to the required backing level and give a few turn of pvc tape all round it, leaving just enough hanging out to attach your braid to.this will stop the braid digging into it and if you ever do go into the backing a the pvc tape should break through ok under pressure.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!

Dacron is so old that cave men threw it away. The only use for it now days is as string for long bows, and I kid you not. 80lb Dacron is used twined six times for tournament archery..

Poor old Dacron, I wouldnt use it myself these days but I can remember when it was great compared to using mono, it still doesnt stretch like mono!
