Where do all the Macky Bashers go during the winter??

#1 Post by Creep »

Right lads no racist remarks or things of such, but was just thinking there the other day when I was on a pier with a mate of mine, this pier during the summer months is PACKED with macky bashers, and each claiming to be a better fishermen then the next.. some with countless tins of beer scattered around thier legs, fag ends piled deep, mono let loose all around the place, and thier rods?!?!? best one I saw so far this year was a lad feathering with a 15'9" Penn Powerstix and not being able to cast it any distance, another one was casting a 6oz weight with feathers!!!

But it got me thinking where do these lads go when winter sets in?? (just so we close the doors and lock them in there)

They probably all head to the county that is said to have 365 lakes in it(a full years supply), to fish for pike and other coarse fish

Seeing as I won't have access to the Mackerel cookie jar, will probably just go "blanking" over the winter to get some head space.

@yngkmd ahhhh try locking the door from the outside when there all in there :D they wont notice psml!! :D

@ Rory I been fishin with you and no offence your not a macky basher :D :D :D the key elements that make a true macky basher, a macky basher, is the half lit cig, over extended rods (normally telescopic in nature), 6oz-7oz weights with 10lb mono, endless supply of beer, and equal amounts of mono to cover at least 1/4 of the pier, the ability to fish the furthest end of the pier and tangle EVERYONE in a single cast (being honest I think this is super human stuff!!), oh and least I not forget the incredible knowledge of fish/fishing which is normally punctuated with a curse word at the start and finish of every sentence

@John Hope not!! Thoughts of Pike flying through the air as they do with Mackerel

Down here in cork alot of the macky lads can be seen along the monkstown sea wall during the winter months trying to hold bottom with 4 oz plain leads, but still managing to cross as many lines as they would when fishing for macks off the nearby piers in the summer, thank god for braid

I used to think it was unfair to crib about mack bashers, but this year I've had enough of them. It's not even the arriving at a mark and finding it packed, anyone is entitled to fish anywhere, it's without doubt the rubbish that annoys me which tars true anglers as messy, disrespectful yobs and speaking of trash, some of the crap they come out with. Why do they insist on talking absolute BS!

I normally use my bass rod when fishin for macks (better sport!) unless im over rocky ground or a high pier wall, but most times the little 8' suites the job

@Crommdog I hear ya, like everyone has to start somewhere...BUT its the rubbish that gets my back-up, empty packets of feather rigs, beer cans, on one pier lads casting out without watching whats behind them (like kids and passer-bys!!) and then ALL anglers getting labelled as dirty ol clowns!! Also the way they treat the fish last year seen lads fling a brace of mackerel over a pier wall hard onto the ground fish bounced all over the place, was sad to see, took him up over it only to be told to F off, then was out in another known mark and this guy was trying to pedulem cast off a packed pier on my left side  with a 6oz wieght and no shock leader, needless to say i was out of there!!! (heard several crack-offs as I was packing, hid behind the tackle box!!)
