GPS/PDA CHARTPLOTTER????????????

#1 Post by stevie rea »

Is it possible to get software for a GPS/PDA to make it a chartplotter with wrecks, ports etc... for Ireland? The GPS/PDA is already running DestinAtor3 for road use which is on a 256MB SD card. The GPS handheld is a Acer n35. Tryed different shops on the net ,but dont know enough about the thing to know what to pick. Any help is appreciated.

The answer should be Yes. Ive seen similar things on a professional boat. as far as I know the charts for irish waters are not copyrighted (unlike the maps of the land) so keep on looking. check out sailing shops and websites like Garmin and Magellan. I know that magellan have a GPS for sailors that you can add charts to. check out their website see who makes the software for them then check if they make a compatable version for your system

Good luck

Thanks.... went for the easy option in the end and bought a NAVMAN chartplotter and chart for Strangford.
