Myself and the auld man:

10 hours altogether:

low:

fairly windy:

lug,rag,peeler,squid,mackerl:

a few:):

flounder,doggys,whiting:

Hi,we started from the harbour in arklow, caught a couple of small flounders, and moved on to the beach after a few hours there, not before one of my fathers rod's was pulled in by an ignorant mother fcker of a sailing boat captain!he was told by one of his men that there was fishing line ahead but he just kept going,my father grabb ed the good rod but the cheap one went in,mine was safe:).i was up at the car so i couldnt help him grab the rods in .anyway back to fishing,we went back onto the beach i think it was the north beach,as soon as it got dark the doggys started to feed caught a couple and a small whiting, about 11 oclock that evening we went up to see what was happening at ennireillys and set up,A couple of nice lads there i was talking to,very quite nothing much happening so we packed up around 1am and headed home:

Hard luck on the lost rod, you have to be extra carefull around harbours.
most of your flounders look like dabs

They are the flatfish in the photos, you can tell the difference easily enough to flounder, they don't grow as big, they look transparent and also if you rub the back of a dab from the head towards the tail it's smooth but if you rub it from the tail towards the head it's rough!

Defo they are dabs not flounder, they are far nicer to eat anyway if they are big enough, they tend to like bait that is not too fresh and they also tend to hang round any fresh water inlets.

great fishing man, plenty of flats there :) just a pity about the rod :( . we fish a few horbours where you have to be on your toes watching out for boats coming in and out. 95% of the skippers are decent and keep away from anglers lines, but there are always the few muppets who cruise past a row of rods with a rye grin on their faces as they collect everyone  . unfortunately you get the odd idiots in every walk of life
