Report: Arranged to meet a few mates at jones pier at dunany point area. This spot would always throw up a few fish this time of year. With so many blanks under my belt for the last few weeks i thought i would give the louth coastline one more shot. The first thing i noticed was no weed, the first time in about 2 months that this mark has been clear, and with the water nice and coloured i thought this is it, gonna beat the blank. But the blank is still haunting me. I know i have said how poor the fishing is in other posts, but this is now 3 weeks on the trot, 3 times a week night and day. There was nine rods in the water today folks, some close in and some at distance and not even a tap on one of them. So, even though today i say i'm not going back, i know that next week the car will be loaded, wife will be giving out and i will be back there to get something because i have to beat this part of the country before i move on. Its driving me nuts at this stage.

Flyno, it is exactly same with me. Fished Dunany last Sunday week. Conditions perfect and for once no weed. Fished with two rods one as far as I could cast and the other close in. Used lug, mackerel and squid on different rigs and like yourself not even a bite. There was another man there lure fishing and he covered a lot of ground up and down the beach without a bite either. Its getting depressing. Starting to think there is no fish left along this stretch of coast. Surely thats not possible? However we all cant be doing something wrong? That said, I will probably give it another try before the weekend ends. Perseverance or stubbornness. Take your pick.

sounds very rough for you at the moment!its poor down here aswell!but at least it was not just your rod not gettin the bites.shows your detetrmined all the very best and do stick at it

I havent been out in weeks...and cant wait to get out, but its sad hearing of all these blanks, but please do keep posting blank reports, personally think I think posting blank reports is important. Theres gotta be something up with the fish.. a reason they are staying clear of the area? has anyone tried Laytown of recent? Skerries?

Hey lads, have tried gormanston at least 6 times over the past month, night tides that should produce.... Not a sausage!

I'm not sure what's up. As recently as August I've seen loads of flats, both flounders and turbot up to 5 or 6 inches so they can't be too far away.

The only thing I can think of is that except for last week we haven't had much easterly wind to shake up the beaches, far less than previous years anyway. I was surprised though as I went out Tuesday after the wind and rain and nothing, I was getting consistent little tap taps but no fish. They must just be in deeper water and staying away from the beaches as it's beentoo calm and water too clear.

Does anyone gave any contacts in the fisheries board that might give a science based suggestion???

Those constant taps were pin whiting about 5-6" long,i put on a rig with tiny hooks and got a load of them a few weeks ago,there might be other bigger fish about but id say ur bait wud be in shreads by the time they swim by ,the beach is carpeted with them i tried long and short casts and couldnt get away from them,now im holding out for the cold weather ,hopefully a few cod will show up ,i think we deserve them after the crap summer we had on the beaches in our area,fingers crossed

Think I'm giving up on Gormanstown, havn't caught there since Feb! pity coz its a nice mark, you'd think it'd produce. So many blanks there this year though, will try again in Feb, good time for flounder there

Just thought id throw my 2 cents worth in ,i was thinking that maybe the fish are clued into waiting for the rasor boats then following them as they trawl the bottom like seagulls following a plough,? Just a theory,but the fishing seems to get worse every year,so if thats the reason good news the ammount of rasor being caught minus price of diesel isnt working out too well for the boats,so it might stop soon

I was talking to a few of the trawler men in annagassan to see if i could get some razor from them and they said they were only trawling for cockles now as there is not much razors, there was 4-5 boats trawling the beach in annagassan, dunany, port and termonfeckon every day for a few weeks there. So it looks like if they cant find what they want when trawling they will just modify their boats and go after something else. They were very close to the shore in annagassan and one of the boats even tipped over last week and the lads on board were rescued by the other boats. So as you say, maybe the fish are just following an easy food source... Roll in the bad weather so the boats cant get out and maybe we can beat the blanks..
