John Kavanagh (the gravediggers) Angling Society

#1 Post by Al »

Hi Lads/Ladies,
Just a quick message if anyone is interested!

Kavanaghs Pub in Glasnevin (also known as the Gravediggers) have set up an angling society.
At the moment it is purely for leisure and not competitive but they are organising angling meets and also pub meets once a month  (If you haven't been the Pints of Guinness are some of the best in dublin if not Ireland :D )

They are organising a fishing meet for Kilcoole this Sunday, and anyone is more than welcome to come along.
If you are planning on going you can drop €10 into Ciaran in the bar by this thursday 27th October to cover the cost of bait, or you can organise your own and turn up to fish the meet. :)

Most of the anglers are novices so no pressure, and also there will be a wealth of experience from Norman Dunlop who was previously the National Sea Angling Adviser at Irish Central Fisheries Board and author to many sea-angling guides, books and also articles for 'Sea Angler' magazine. Norman is to thank for organing the club in such a great venue by the way :D

If anyone is Interested in coming to the meet in Kilcoole, we are meeting up at The Gravediggers Pub at 9:00am Sunday morning.

Address can be found at the link below.

Cheers,

Al

Yeah I was going to contact you about it actually, I'll be sure to mention it on Sunday. if there is any leftover bait it will be a good way to use it up :)

I wont be around myself monday to fish it unfortunately, but i'll let people know what the story is and i'll post updates here with regards to any meets that are coming up, be it on the beach or in the pub :)

I think that's the main aspect of the club, the fishing can sometimes be crap...but the pints are always good

Hi Creep,

I think I may have worded the post incorrectly,
They had a meet on Monday night to decide where to fish etc, and the money for the cost of bait is just to be dropped into Ciaran at the bar by today, so there's no meet tonight unfortuntely
They are fishing Kilcoole sunday and meeting at the grave diggers at 9:00am and going from there.
Sorry about any confusion

Regards,
Al

Howya Dave,

Happy days,

Will keep ya's informed about meets etc, that's no bother at all ;)
There's no joining fee as it's just for pleasure at the moment, The only cost involved so far is if you wanna pool in a tenner for bait and if not, that's grand just turn up with your own :p

Al

Not sure yet Muttoner, Will keep ya's posted!
Unfortunately the weekend was a bit of a washout. We fished Kilcoole for 1.5 hrs but weed got the better of us, decided to see if Killiney was any better but the whole place was carpeted in weed too, so we called it a day after an hour and half or so!

Ah well, there's always next time! :)

Thats a shame Al we had the same in south greystones for the event and had to move to behind the harbor and that was weed free.....

Did many turn out for the new club?

Yeah I noticed that from the report, pity about the weed alright :(
We had 14 people fishing, alot were novices so the conditions were a bit crap to try and introduce people to the sport, and also there were only a handfull of fish caught between both beaches too!
But next time will be better.....or worse

Al keep us posted on future meets. I love that pub. That little old section in on the left is nice an cozy. Perfect place to sit down over a cold one and talk about fishy tales. I also fish sometimes too haha.
