Report:
Sparkey+1 and myself decided since we havent been out for awhile now to head to a localish mark in the hope it might produce something, so armed with everything we could think of we headed to the Beach behind the harbour notice several lads macky bashin castin every direction, and there was a nasty on shore wind, really gusty so we moved to Skerries beach, we were plagued with swimmers and dog walkers, the swimmers (lots of them) were swimming well within casting range, and we had bait nicked on us by several dogs with owners sayin "sorry about that" " I never seen anyone fishin here before" "are you fishin?" (I normally store my bait in a box to keep the dogs away) but this time i was retrieving to change over baits, and had a fillet of mackerel ready for wrapped bait :x , we then moved around to the rocks only to be plagued by walkers  each with his/her own expert fishing advice on how to catch mackerel  when it was obvious we werent gunning for mackerel.
Then we had a couple of kids come down and despite me saying to the mother the steps are very slippy (green sea moss on the rocks) she proceeded to navigate her kids down the steps tied bacon to a washing line and pulled up several crabs  at this stage I gave up as it was too dangerous to cast with the amount of people there, and there was no point in continuing any further or lookin for other marks. So I put the rods away and watched to make sure the kids weren't going to fall in, Oh on the beach earlier the wind blew a buggy off the beach and into the sea, I ran (thinking there was a baby in the buggy  ) retrieved the empty buggy to a thankful mum, so a busy day but not fishin wise as we drew a blank, but in a way Im glad we drew a blank as if we had a caught something it would have only drawn more of a crowd!! Next time I hit Skerries I think I'll wait for night time...in a gale force wind in the rain, snow, lighting storm, armageddon, when no one is around :D

Can never understand why Skerries doesn't produce fish from the shore as its one of the fishiest looking spots North of the Liffey. Two lovely beaches, nice rock mark to the right of the Harbour and the sandy channel out to the islands....

Surely there must be some flats around somewhere....?

Fished a mark just beside that beach during the summer, same thing , not a bite,,but I know the lads that fish the lobster pots all along that stretch, they regularly get nice red codling and small huss in the pots,no more than 40 yds from shore. The beaches throw up the nice odd flounder, and occasional bass if the surf's up. few small whiting and small codling about in winter. The Portrane and Donabate areas seem to be more productive.

Well that was a suprise buddy to post that didn't expect to read about our Terry Wogan and blankty blank, well we sure did put in some hours on Sunday for no results except for you talking to some mackey basher out walking telling you his back was sore from casting ( guess he had a 16ft rod and 4oz weight ha ha ) just like killeny..... and forgot bout the buggy with the dad screaming from the water while swimming....

Pity we didn't up the weight and try target practice on the swimmers.....

But at least we got out and tried and had a laugh and answered plenty of questions also got the temple st mentioned....

Well its a long time since I blanked and now I remember that feeling..... would of thought we would get something when we moved to the rock as it looked a perfect spot for Wrasse...... some amount of bait used yesterday....

Talk to you later maybe we get out on Thursday.... The other marks we where talking about....

I forgot about that Macky Basher... but he was interested in shore fishin as well, Mack bashin is a great introduction for some, and I hope I might see him on the shore one of these days, the reason he was hurtin his back was using a beach caster all day with feathers and a 5-6 oz weight I advised him to go lighter, a good ol spin rod, lighter gear, less stress. and he was very interested in this site too :D (always have to plug this site!! ;) I hope he comes out to the Temple street Fundraiser (fingers crossed)

The problem with targeting the swimmers .. is I dont know how to cook them :( theres no reciepes anywhere :D
Thursday might be on mate!

Lads, nice post, never mind about the blank or the lost tackle, always good to see people goin out and having a laugh no matter what the conditions.
Was using a beachcaster for a while before I got a rod suitable for rocks/pier fishing...I was thinking I'd look like the lad off the Dutch gold can before long.
I always thought goin for swimmers was like trying to hit the tractor that collected golfballs on the driving range. No fun unless its moving!!!
Was talking to sparkey+1 and told him all but I could do was to roll over on Saturday mornin (went out a bit later only to lose some of my favourite lures and pick up the weed that you left behind on Dollymount, Creep :x ). Could hear the wind rattle the house from 3 or 4 in mornin till 9ish  so I'm kinda glad circumstances conspired in keeping me awake for half the night :D

Guys back of red island at low water between the car park and the island, ive had a good few pollock and some codling there at low water there seems to be a big tide run between the island and the car park + sandy bottom if fished at low water.
