My first bass!!
People:
me
Duration:
2hr 45mins
Tide:
hw at 22.30
Weather:
se winds, dry, over cast
Bait:
rag, Berkley Frenzy Surface Popper
Rigs:
1hook up tide rig
Results:
caught a small pollock on the bait rod on first cast, retrieved bait and re cast out. Decided while letting it soak would try a bit of lure fishing. Cranked out the telescopic rod and the berkley surface popper. Worked my way down the beach, 3-4 casts at each 5m interval. On the the third interval hit a bass about 15 yds from shore. Absolutely delighted, its my first one and spent a very very long time trying to catch one!!!

Re: My first Bass!!
thanks all, its nuts i finally know what everyone means now when they say you know when you've caught one. Strong little buggers.
I've been targetting bass properly for the last 3 or 4 years, feels really good to finally know a mark after many many hrs blanking!
I always thought i'd pick one up from bait but I think I might start leaving that rod at home now!!

Re: My first Bass!!
thanks all for the well wishes
Had a lovely dinner last night of pan fried bass. It was the wife's first time trying bass and she asked me when I was going out again!!!
I understand now why its such a luxury but for now if I catch anymore they will go back in unless they beat this one.
I went with a popper because of the rough ground I wish fishing after loosing many spinners or wrecking them from scraping off the rocky bottom.
Here's a handy article about poppers, helped me decide to go get one
