Report:. Just a short report from my romantic weekend away with herself

. Went down to County Waterford for a couple of nights and was lucky enough to get out to a rock mark near Tramore for a couple of sessions. With everyone else looking for mackeral, I dropped a 2 hook rig down into deep water under me, approx 20 ft, searching for fish. First drop resulted in my best Ballan wrasse of the year (mind you it hasnt been a great year for me with Wrasse

).This was followed by my biggest coalie of the year, not a monster either at about 30cms

but it was a good start on what was a very murky evening. I didnt see any macks caught , but a lad near me was pulling out small coalies 2 and 3 at a time, all destined for the auld Aldi bag. My next drop was hammered and the fish then snagged me so I was left wondering what had I missed. I was using rag and the fish went wild for them, a fish a cast. After a few fruitless sessions on the East Coast it was great to get that "biting " feeling again. I fished the rise into darkness and went back the next morning and evening fishing the rising tides and had similar results. On a sadder note I have to report that I lost a monster Bass

I set up next morning on the lower rocks and as the tide came in I did a quick risk assessment and decided for Health and Safety reasons to move to a higher platform

This proved to be a disastrous move as (A) The water didnt get any higher and (B) I hooked into and lost a Bass.
I felt a take and the fish proceeded to snag me

,I gave him some slack in the hope of him releasing himself and while I was doing this the rod was almost pulled out of my arms. I lifted into him and got him to the surface where I got the shock of my life seeing the dark back and silvery sides of a Bass, a massive one at that, my best is 6 lbs and this was well bigger and chunkier . Straight away I knew that it was a lost cause, as I was so high up and was using light gear. If I had been lower down I could have eased him onto a ledge,,,,,,,,,,MAYBE

. I played him for a few moments on the surface till he decided to scarper and I was left thinking what if's, and if only's

.Aw well , thats the one that got away story well and truly told. I went back next morning armed with crab and a stiffer rod and tackle but the bass stood me up

. I'm going to end on a positive and say I had 3 great sessions there, very productive, and with the place shrouded in fog most of the time, I was pleased with what I got.
