I always wrote off the beach as being very poor with the odd small codling and pin whiting the best ud expect in winter,but thought id give it a fair bash with decent bait for once,also the character of the beach has changed theres a couple of banks and gullys after forming ,there was a nice bit of surf too ,and no weed but i think i got one nibble from something small,pity its so bad ,by the look of it ud think it wud produce

now picture you holding a 10 lb bass! if you dont go you dont know!no one ever got a ten pound bass sat on their butts at home unless it was a playstation one! you gave it a lash and thats fishing for ya ,one of my bass marks can be all or nothing so if i blank i just look at the conditions tide bait i was using and make a mental note that if its like that i,ll prob blank and avoid the repeat performance,dont write any beach off cos they all produce given the right conditions / time of year KEEP AT IT!

Fair play man for giving it a try, I know that beach and its a lovely beach last time I was there over at the harbour I saw 3 seal swimming around with lots of fry around the harbor wall. But as Rodger said if you dont try you wont know so who knows what it might trow up with the right tide,surf etc....

Was there much rag around in rogerstown....

Yae try the next beach and see what happens.

Ive tried that beach a good few times over the years winter and summer never good fishing,but i just wanted to confirm to myself before i condemned it ,i wont be fishing it again,shame its way deeper than laytown gormo beaches,i know what ur saying rodger but trust me ive tried this beach too many times,anyway barnageera needs a straight easterly to get a surf skerries shelters it from anything south,but again is deeper than laytown and theres millions of baby flats so it may throw up an odd big one,if she lets me out tonite ill give it a go before the restvof my rag goes to s**t

Hard luck man was going to go down to that beach last night but something came up, might try gormanstown tonight iv had flounder off it up to 40 cm and iv heard of bass taking off it too,it fishes best on the rise about half way in hope this helps ya

Tried Gormaston last night myself, up near Ben Head. One other angler out.. Started at about 6.30 stayed till about 9... Nothing!

It's a funny beach though, I've had times where I've blanked for no apparent reason, three Bass on a session twice, I had 6 different species in one night once!

It's frustrating, there seems to be a lot less out there this year than previous years, hardly even a Flounder!

Thinking about it, there were hundreds of mullet in just 9 inches of water... anyone any suggestions on how to catch these??

hmm know of so many North of the liffey beaches the same which I dont understand, Ive walked them sused out the fauna notice little shrimps, white bait, crabs, sand eels, etc yet the big fish arent to be found, just doesnt make sense?!? Last time i was in Laytown was after flatties, but the things we caught were tiny, i know of a mark there thats supposed to produce good flats and one lad even told me he stood on one while flying fishin , when i went lookin... nothin. But I figure Rodger is right, with all that wildlife around there has to be something out there..there just has to be...
By the way.. the south of the liffey isnt fairing much better, though you will hook into small fish and the amount of whitting is just silly, they should really be called bait strippers!!

I reckon its a mixture of conditions and weather. We had crap weather this year and we haven't had the correct conditions yet this autumn, ie easterly wind, even the southerlys last week barely stirred up any surf!

When we see a bit of surf you'll see flats, I think the weather was just not warm enough for the Bass to head north!

Any comments???
