Southaussie: 2 x Dabs, 1 x Flounder

Report: 25/09/2011
Well it was time for a long over due session as I hadn’t been out in ages with one thing and another. Dan was heading for Dublin for the weekend so the plan was hatched (although be it late for a smoothie session). Saturday was prep day tying a few combinations of single and double pulleys and getting my flappers back up to scratch as the ones in the box were looking a bit worse for wear. Peeler was sourced together with some nice rag. So prep was nearly done, a last few texts sent to see who was about/where was fishing and what the final venue would be. Decision made, and we hit the road on Sunday from Dublin to Wexford. The forecast was poor but we were assured that it would clam down between 5 – 6pm. Sure enough not long after we had arrived and got set up it did start to calm down and turned into a nice evening.

So the Report: Arrived around 16:00, Justin was already set up and we set up beside him after a quick chat (Very nice to finally put a face to the name Justin, we will get out again for sure). I think we all had the same tactics one rod in close for flats etc fishing flappers and the other at distance fishing Pulleys with crab. Dan was in first to break the ice with a flounder so he was a happy man – Blank saved. I followed suit with another flounder and shortly after Dan had a double flounder / Dab and Justin at the same time with a Dab. So with the blank gods put at bay the attention was directed towards the distance rods to see if we could temp something a bit bigger. (Fingers were crossed). Crab baits we hit to distance all evening after that but no rewards, well except for Dan – yes he picked up another double of Flats on a pulley! Justin had a few more and I picked up another dab (new species for the year – so happy with that). Things slowed the other side of high except for just when it started to get dark and I had the best knock I had all night. Strange knock and retrieve though I was thinking and knew that there was definitely something on? – a silver eel – new one for me, so another new species and PB!!! And hence the towel!
Dan finished up the night with a whiting so all in all 4 species for the evening but none of the Allusive Smoothies – We will keep hoping.

The Banter and Crack was flying all night and was a pleasure to meet southaussie – we will do it again. All in all a good day out, well worth the trip down and a good days crack with a few fish.

A final note to some of the East Coast Lads for a few pointers. – Thanks Lads.

shame no smoothies turned up ,they are very thin on the ground at the moment the crabs are all but done shedding just the tail end now with this weather warming up a bit maybe things might liven up for a week or two fingers crossed  a good smoothy is the most fun you can have on the east coast without taking your clothes off

Yea Roger,it is getting a bit late for them now alright. All the same was good to get out and try a new venue. A few flats were well welcome and we had a good day out.
