I was given a copy of this book (author Paul Greenberg) earlier in the year, when it was called Four Fish, and recently finished reading it. Its the in-depth story of how four fish - salmon, bass, cod, and tuna - have gone (or in the case of tuna, are going) from being wild hunted species to industrially farmed product for the mass market, and its a fascinating read. The section on bass is particularly interesting, I had no idea so much manipulative science and money has gone into turning it into a commonplace menu item.
Greenberg started life as an angler before becoming interested in marine biology and the book is dotted with angling slants on his subjects. Very enjoyable and very very informative

Re: "The Fish On Your Plate"
Hi Hugo thanks for the post. There seems to be two books, one called The Fish on Your Plate: Why We Eat What We Eat from the Sea and the other called Four Fish: A journey from the ocean to your plate.
I think that the one you have just read is the Four Fish book, are you sure that the other book isnt a different book altogether? Both are by same author but two different subjects I think?
I am possibly interested in acquiring these book(s) if i can clarify this.
thanks

Re: "The Fish On Your Plate"
They're the same book as far as I can make out. "Four Fish" was published in hardback in the US last year, and "The Fish On Your Plate" appears to be a retitling for the paperback edition this side of the Atlantic. I'll investigate further.
