Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
Fished Fenit pier up to and over high water both Saturday and sunday (13 & 14 Aug) along with tens of other hopefulls and there was only 2 or 3 fluke mackerel caught along the entire length of the pier over both days.
Saw a tiny dab and a red gurnard coming over the wall to baited feathers but nothing else other than the usual spider crabs there!

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
Well the mackeral are in....after being patchy all summer they've arrived back into Cork Harbour in significant numbers over the last few days. Over the evening tides they have been seen regularly 'breaking' as they tear into the shoals of sprat. Anyone fishing the piers at Cobh or Monkstown should bag up.
We sent a crew out yesterday evening to catch bait for our up and coming Deep Sea Angling Festival and in three hours they managed to get 750 macks, only the onset of darkness prevented them from catching more. Now we need just 250 more for the freezer

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
There is something wrong with the mackerels this year....
I'm used to fishing in Galway harbor and this year it was not that bad. 2 weeks ago I got 145 in 4h on feathers, last week I got 85 in 2h from Nimos Pier, some trips with 20-30 fishes as well. Last weekend- quite good- water was "boiling" and you have to cast 1-2m away to get 3-4 fishes.
But after this weekend they seem to disappear somewhere- I was on Wednesday and there was nothing.... ,a lot of anglers blanked, I got 3 macks with very long casts, but they seem to be strange, slim. At home I checked that inside they had a lot of something like "cod worms"- so they were just ill and that is why they stayed. It is a lot of seals, I saw 3 or 4 last time, so that is probably the reason why there is no fishes and the remaining ones have the cod worms.
Maybe it will be better in week or two...
