Skerries lobster

#1 Post by Jimclarke »

People Just myself

Duration 10pm till Midnight

Tide High @ 00.30

Weather Reasonable

Bait:Fresh Mackerel strips

Rigs Hokais for the Mackerel, Mackerel 0n a 1 hoook flapper

Results 2 Mack & 1 lobster

Decided not to go to the pub,and head for Skerries Pier for a bit of Mackerel, set up with a 5 hook Mack trace, I usually spin with a german spratt as it prolongs the sport but as the Mack are in short supply decided to up my chances, lobbed them over the pier and jinked around for about 5 mins in different spots, resulted in 3 macks, decided to try for something else and set up a 1 hook flapper and used a silver strip of fresh mack and grip lead and cast out about 60 meters, tightened up on the line and lit a smoke and stood back for a bit of a break, about 2 min lated noticed a gentle pull on the rod and observed it for about 30 seconds before lifting, really thought it was a conger at first because of the dead weight but got it to the surface and what a surprise, lobster firmly hooked in its left claw, hand reeled it up the pier wall (thanks to the 2 lads who gave a hand) took a pic and returned safely back.
Entries now open for the Henry's Tackle Shop All Ireland Shore Smooth Hound Championships on July 18h hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC
