Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
Monday 1st August - fished afternoon incoming tide off a rock near Ballycotton with my brother. Was planning for a few Mackeral for the pan - no trace of them.
Got two Pollock each though (returned) so not a blank.

Angling Expedition - Dungarvan, Helvic Head and Dunmore East
Took a short trip southeastwards into the Déise on Bank Hol. Mon. and Tues.
Real target was Bass, having heard local cathces at Ballinacourty, Dungarvan harbour.
But blanked on that, despite successful dig for maddies, peeler crab and lug + local chap who provided useful info.
So some mac bashing at Helvic Hd. and Dunmore East salved the bass disapp't.
V.large size single catches 3 hrs. into rising tide at D.East yesterday afternoon on rock slaps,
back of harbour; counted 15 rods, but I seemed to be only one catching!
Same at Helvic Hd. previous evening.
Seems macs. are there, but slow and sporadic.
Aidan,
Bray.

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
25 2 sundays ago and 14 sunday just gone , in the harbour @ dun laoighaire on the float with squid and sandeel as bait. 3 hours before high tide seems to be the best time for the area i fish , depth being the other main factor and adjusting as the tide comes

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
Hello, comparing to previous years the macks seem to be scarce, hope it's not a trend starting.
Was up in Clifden area last couple of weeks, not a sniff of a mack up to earlier this week from the shore, or in a boat either just outside casting range of the shore.
The only macks I caught were miles out on a very enjoyable evening's charter - thanks John Ryan
Are there any being caught off the bridge in Kinsale, there must be people fishing there at the moment, any sign of them landing any??
All the reports are great to see, especially if they are blanks and you're letting other people know the chances of catching are low, hope that outlook changes soon

Hi Richie,
Graphing the results is very useful, the more useful info coming in the better the info coming out of any chart, I can do it at some stage but I have no objection if anyone else wants to graph the info at some point..... Gilks, are you still out there????

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
Hi Eric - just wondering is this the east pier fishing into the harbour itself? I'd like to do some float fishing for mackerel but don't fancy scarmbling for space down the end of the west pier so this sounds ideal. Got a couple on the float out at skerries during the week and it was great craic but theres not a whole lot ofspace out there

Skerries pier. 08:00-08:40
Cheap Argos spinning rod and real, years old.
5 mackerel on Dexter Wedge.
Lost wedge on snag.
3 mackerel on rusty yellow and red feathers. (Full house)
And then another full house this time mister seal had a go at eating the mack.
result: one broken real.
Good fun.
PS lots of spacce in skerries early in the morning.
