Cripes! A whole weekend!

#1 Post by kieran »

Ye gods!

I've been given leave to disappear fishing for a whole weekend. This is probably becasue the next addition to the Hanrahan clan is arriving in late June at which point I will be disappearing off the fishing earth for a while!

Probably late April or early May, was thinking that I will not be travelling too far - maybe a thorough examination of Belmullet, some marks on North Mayo (totally unfished, brand new ground) and possibly Achill would be in order. Might be tempted to travel outside... Any suggestions?

Obviously there is the opportunity for a SAC social event within this space - possibly the lure only fishing competition?

Knew there'd be a downside to it. One weekend in return for 18 years of hard labour. Sure you got a bargain there Kieran?

Thanks Phil

We have October if I recall pencilled in for a sessions in Antrim...

Realistically my own coast will be coming along nicely in April or May, so I think I will stay relatively close - don't want to waste good fishing time in the car! If anyone is interesting in a weekend of mixed fishing... PM me.

Funny you should mention that, called in to see Bill Ryan (now much recovered and well) and planning the possibility of some mixed fishing around Carrigagholt, Poulnasherry, Kilkee and the Bridges of Ross...

Hi

Looking at the tides, its probably the last weekend in April (28/29) or the second weekend in May (13/14), the latter would probably be better...

Sat 13 May
HW LW HW LW
04:51 11:02 17:15 23:21
4.6 m 1.0 m 4.7 m 0.9 m

Sun 14 May
HW LW HW LW
05:26 11:37 17:50 23:55
4.6 m 1.0 m 4.7 m 0.9 m

Massive tides, almost 5 metres in Carrigaholt on the 13th and 14th - thinking in terms of the bridges of ross and kilkee is the weather is decent, and the shannonside marks if the weather is not good. Met Bill Ryan there on Saturday (he's much better and will be fishing again soon, welcome back Bill  ) and despite his involvement in an archeological dig (!) and the clash with the Twaite Shad season on St Mullins he said he would try to meet up and show me a few marks!

Will post up something here closer to the time...

If you are going to Achill call in to O Malleys shop in keel . John O Malley runs the fishing part of the business and the local anglers produced an excellent angling map some years ago. I have fished all over it and suggest you ask locally whereever you decide to fish . Its a big island but it has some great marks and you might even get out on a boat from Purteen harbour. Some great conger to be had at and off the rocks at Purteen. Enjoy
