Greystones 12/07

#1 Post by Richie07 »

People: Me

Duration: 20.00 - 22.00

Tide: HT about 22.30ish.

Weather: Fine, bit windy,

Bait: Slug-go 6"

Rigs:

Results: 2 Bass.

Report:
Good night, thought it would be good with the late tide and the weather being so good, the sea wasn't as calm as I thought when I arrived and there was alot of weed about. The first Bass hit the slug go really hard and went on a bit of a run, got a great scrap and managed to land it and take a few photos, it took me nearly 10 minutes to get it back in the sea, it wasn't having it but I managed to revive it and away it swam, was between 6 and 8lb imo. Next cast I missed another one but then I managed to hook another one, a bit smaller around the 4lb mark, this was deep hooked so I kept this one, I had to call it a day then as the fish spiked me badly in the hand and I couldn't stop the blood flow. I reckon there were more fish to be had but I couldn't cast so called it a day.

Where were you fishing? I was in Greystones between 9.00-10.30 fishing off the rocks behind the golf course. Managed to land 1 Pollock on some crab after around 30 mins.

Apart from that, I had something big grab my spinner on the first cast when we arrived but it got off the hook and I didn't see what it was.

There were three others fishing on their own off the beach beside the rocks but I didn't see anyone land anything. And the weed was crazy so we packed up and left.

Unlucky with the one that got off, could've been a Bass. I wasn't anywhere near there last night. Im surprised you didn't get more up at the rocks on the lures, where you using lures as well as having another rod out with bait?

Are you sure they were Smoothies?, and not Dogfish, never seen 10 Smoothies caught from the harbour area there.

There were 2 of us out. So we had 2 lines out with bait and 2 spinning rods. Might walk further down the tracks next time and see where it leads me. Usually I'd just fish in front of the beachouse there but it's been a while since I got a bit there of any significance.
