Catch of the day / Greystones Rocks / 11th July 2011

People: me on my lonesome

Duration: 7.00pm - 10.30pm

Tide: high to receeding

Weather: calm

Bait: Spinner at first, then feathers. Sandeel on the bottom at dusk.

Results: 1 Coalie, 1 Small whiting, 1 Sandeel, 1 Crab, 2 Doggies and Catch of the Day!

That explains it, the shrimp have chased all of the mackerel away! lol :lol:
Species 2011: Mackerel, Sandeel, Cod, Coley, Pouting, Ling, Pollock, Cuckoo Wrasse, Red Gurnard, Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Poor Cod.

Species 2012: Mackerel, Pollock, Coley, Pouting

I was reading somewhere that all the basking sharks have moved offshore and they eat plankton which sandeel and sprat eat,and they are eaten by macks,the story with the sharks is something to do with currents and surface temperature,just thought id throw that theory out there or just blame the Icelandic and faroese trawlers for the hammering they gave the macks last year also our and Britains pealagic fleets hitting them in the winter off the west coast
