A lot of talk about the Harbor and Macks,
Left work early to get involved, picked up some rag and few packs of feathers, I'm not ready to attempt to detangle last years mess.
Arrived on the west pier at about 6 and closed the boot on shakespeare travel rod, not a great start, that rod has traveled the world, it will be sadly missed.
Just had the teenie tiny plastic pound shop rod I use for minis.
Set up at the inside last corner. Had the usual mini wrasse and pollock and one gobie.
But about 20 min in I got a fairly decent wrasse, was pleasantly surprised. Had to haul it out hand on line, the rod wouldn't do it. Got a jogger to take a pic and popped him in at the bottom step, unfortunately he laid dead on his side in the water, so got the shoes and socks off and braved the frigid waters to hold him upright long enough for him to swim away. Got quite a few interested looks from passers by.
Grand couple of hours. Were plenty of lads on the pier only saw one group with Macs who were fishing off the back of the West Pier.

Hi Cormdog,
I love seening a bit of emergency improvisation catching a nice fish. I was one of the two lads with the mackerel that you showed the photo to down at the pier yesterday. We had a crack at the wrasse on float a bit further into the harbour (using mackerel as bait on size 0/1 hooks) but to no avail. I blamed it on my mate shouting at his dog all the time. Any tips as have never caught one?
Cheers,
Gilks

Wrasse are not usually caught on fish baits, a rag under the float will catch you, wrasse, pollock, pout, scorpion fish, whiting and mackeral in Dun laoighre harbour.

Dont you realise man, your not allowed to pop joggers in from the bottom step!!!? No wonder he lay dead on his side, and im sure the passersby were shocked.

Rag is killer for wrasse, they are attracted to the movement, crab and limpet will catch them too, limpets are free and plentiful!
Try a smaller hook as they will nibble away the bait and you'll miss hook ups,
