Brandon - Kerry

#1 Post by Eoghan »

People: My brother in law

Duration: 1 week in Brandon

Tide: various

Weather: mixed bag

Bait: lug, rag, crab, mack and numerous plugs n spinners

Rigs: mostly single snood 4/0 - 6/0

Results: Bass, Ray, Trout

Report:

Not me fishing this time but my bro in law who is down in Brandon for a week's fishing..! Jammy git..! :(
By all accounts its not fishing well. He has had a few bass to about 3Ib but not many, roughtly 3 per session.
A nice stingray which was a new species for him, only about 6Ib though, not one of the monsters you can get down there.
Fell to king rag of all baits on a trace intended for a bass.
All of the above on bait, various tides etc.
Spinning is proving difficult with only a few trout showing up (He is targeting bass not trout).
No bass on plugs as yet and ever more weird there seem to be no macks about..!!!

He hasnt blanked many session but some of the marks he is fishing, one in particular is my favourite spot for Bass in Ireland and its
only throwing up a handful of bass per session. There is a lot of weed about which isnt helping.

He is one of those guys who would catch fish in a puddle so it must be bad..! :-)

Thought it was strange myself..! It was a short snood trace too and would not have been on bottom.

Three of us fished the Dingle area a couple of weeks ago and I have never known there to be such a shortage of Mackerel in the 20+ years I have been fishing the area. We tried all over the peninsular even venturing to Kells and it was the same there. I know a couple of guys boat fishing out of Kells and even they could not get enought for bait.

They keep targeting their winter holding gounds and it will get worse..!

Only a few years ago I used to curse em as I couldnt get a lure past em to the bass. We used to pick a few in April..!

Its sad..! Hard to believe its so bad in July.
