Perfect evening for chasing the macs last night. Went to Sorrento Point. Maybe 60 casts with spinners and then small white bait catchers. No macs.

Two other lads had a mac each in the space of one minute. Nothing else as far as I could see. I think the Dolphins in Killiney Bay have had them all.

When I read "Plenty of macks outside Dun Laoghaire harbour today  " and having caught abso no mack this year on east pier, I packed my stick head off to west pier the next day (Tuesday). 7 of us stood like greek gods pillars on the edge + 4 men on a boat, braving the rear gust, the result? A big naught. Then I thought, may be they had drifted away for a day or 2, so I tried again Thursday, this time the opposite pier, same result. Again this evening, still nothing. I'm now convinced when someone said outside the harbour, they probably meant 3 miles away.

Strange. I was up at St.Johns Point myself last night from 4.30pm - HT @ 6.45. Conditions were absolutely perfect. I was totally convinced I would have a fish within 1/2 hr...... absolutely nothing in 3 hrs - I tried everything, SP's, sub-surface lures, Mac Rigs - nothing ! I couldn't believe it. There should have been fish. What's happening

went out today with her good self. we went to west clare off the flat rocks. got there at 3 fished till 7 . there was a good few mackerel fishing and we were trying everything but no luck finally i found a pack of shrimp like feathers with very small hooks in the box . first cast 6 mack and it went on like that for about a hour.the usual hoiki feathers are too big. so the macks are in but my advice use very small hooks and the macks were down deep. tight lines.

I went out about three miles offshore yesterday near boatstrand, waterford. Only a codling and a couple of gurnard. Moved around, still nothing. Worked my way shorewards, and about a mile offshore I finally found the mackerel - pulled three dozen out in about an hour. A mix of sizes, and caught them in ones and twos at a range of depths - on a fairly battered set of feathers too. Pretty much what I would expect for this time of year, thank God. Hopefully the cracking weather of the last few days will bring more in towards shore.

Just got back off weavers point, crosshaven, Went to see the tallship going out. no wind so they never opened thier sails, most unfortunate.

from 30 mins past high tide to 2 hours later we had 8 macks, nice big ones too. They stayed in the pool well past outgoing tide. High tide was 8 in the morning we fished from half past stopping to photo the ship.

So its looking good, and iam gonna enjoy my dinner.

Fished St Johns Point yesterday 2pm to 7pm and drew a blank. To make things worse I saw a few others bringing in strings of mackerel. Think my hooks and feathers were too big. Disapointing to see so much rubbish left behind by both native and foreign anglers.....gives us all a bad name :!:
