new headlamp

#1 Post by rab 525 »

on the look out for a new headlamp had the mfa in mind does any one have one,how long does a charge last, does it give a good beam for 50yds at least, or is the speleo or petzl night raider better, how heavy is the battery, and finally does any tackle shops in co. down/ antrim stock them as the postage costs of mail order from across the water is a rip off.
grateful for any advice

HEAD LAMP

#4 Post by SIMPO »

I had the shapespear rechargeable head lamp until the dog god the hold of it and tore it to shreds. Sourced one from Laganside Tackle in Dunmurray. Very light, great spot and flood beam. lasts for about 6-8hrs.

Millarky's website were selling them for £26 plus p&p making it £27.95.

RRP is £36.

Definately worth thinking about

petzel do a good range and they have ones with a halogen + LEDs. Leds Last for about 80 hrs and are perfect for illuminating rod tip, baiting up etc and the Halogen lamp for long range. they have a reputation for lasting for ever and are priced about 75- 80 euro.

I have petzel tika bought it for about 45 euro it just has the leds and is perfect for night fishing the 3 AAA batterys last forever.
They have a cheaper older design for about 25- 50
Check out their products on line. and see if you can get a bargin somewhere they are expensive but very good.
hikers swear by them in terms of toughness.

have the speleo night raider, presently available mail order for £99.99

got it when they first came out from tonys tackle for christmas and they ran about £135 and it came with a free titan universal battery harness which goes over one shoulder and also clips around your waist, the lead acid battery is quite heavy but the harness takes a lot of the pressure away.
on the 20watt halogen it lasts for 4 hours and 8 on the 10w.
the beam is great, it will light up over 50yds i reckon, even on the 10w as some of the guys who were at the east strand north meet will tell you.
id reccommend them anyhow! but everyone has their own preferences and budgets.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!
