noob bass advice

#1 Post by tony07 »

Im not a huge sea fisher but have been fishing on lakes rivers etc for a fair while now. So ive been eyeing up what i believe to be sea bass coming in with the tide at the shore where i live. They can be seen swimming about in water no deeper than a foot but the water is rather weedy. I tried fishing today with a plug but had no joy so whats my best option? Peeler crabs? and what sort of set up? ill be using a 9 ft spinning rod for it.

Cheers for the help!

If its really bass and not mullet what you're seeing and the area you fish is full of weed and snaggy you could try fishing a float rig baited with a few juicy lug or try a head hooked free floating sandeel with your spinning setup.

Hiya.. i too have noticed bass in extremely shallow water and rooting around in weed being pushed onto the beach.. i have swam with bass and mullet and even though they can be hard to differentiate between bass have thicker 'shoulders' and swim with a wiggle:) I havn't tried float fishing for them yet but i've heard a head of a mackeral can be good too? and would reduce waste after filleting. i must give it a go,this could be done from a pier aswell
